The ‘Palais Wittgenstein’
As Ray Monk has noted, Karl Wittgenstein’s ‘immense wealth enabled the family to live in the style of the aristocracy. Their home in Vienna, in the ‘Alleegasse’ (now Argentinergasse), was known outside the family as the Palais Wittgenstein, and was indeed Palatial, having been built for a count earlier in the century.’ (Monk, 1991: 8)
